This week I had the great pleasure of attending the 'crew' screening of Yamination Studio's debut short film, "At-issue"; the culmination of around 3 years hard graft involving in excess of 100 people, with Director/Producer extraordinaire Drew Roper at the helm.
My work on At-Issue as 'VFX Supervisor' consisted mostly of compositing, including clean-up and derigging, as well as creating the 3D 'Yamination' titles, and FX advice.
It's been a hell of a journey seeing this film come together. From an idea originally conceived of after a trip that Drew, some other uni friends and I took to Annecy animation festival back in 2009, we devised a film that might combine all of our different skill sets; Drew's in Stop-Motion, myself in CGI, and others in their various styles. Drew carried this idea forward whilst the rest of us took the "safe" option of getting jobs - and he managed to successfully secure funding through the Sky Arts 'Ideas tap' initiative. On the back of this he was able to set up his own production studio and continues to go from strength to strength. It's been an inspiration seeing him and his business grow, as well as a great honour to have been a part of.
